ZHAO Xiu Song (Honorary)

X. S. (George) Zhao, Fellow of The Royal Society of Chemistry, Professor of School of Materials Science and Engineering, Qingdao University, Director of Institute of Materials for Energy and Environment, Qingdao University. He is also appointed as National Distinguished Professor,Taishan Scholars Professor, and Leader of the Taishan Scholars energy storage materials program of Shandong Province. Professor Zhao received his BSc degree in chemistry from Shandong University in 1987, and PhD in Chemical Engineering from Queensland University in 1999.


Professor Zhao's research focuses on nanoporous materials for energy and environmental applications. His recent innovative research on advanced energy storage materials and electrocatalysis has significant impacts in the fields worldwide. He has co-edited 3 book published by Imperial College Press, Willey and Jenny Stanford Publishing, respectively, as well as 15 book chapters. He is the author of 475 SCI journal papers. His publications have been cited over 48,000 times with an h-index of 102 (Google Scholar). Professor Zhao is a Clarivate Analytics global highly cited researcher from 2016 to 2022 and Elsevier China highly cited researcher from 2019 to 2022. Professor is the president of Asia-Pacific Association of Energy Storage and Conversion and editorial or international advisory board member of several international journals. He is the recipient of 2nd prize of Science and Technology Advancement of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Laureate Fellow and Future Fellow of the Australian Research Council, The University of Queensland Vice-Chancellor’s Research And Teaching Fellow, and Mrozowski Award of the American Carbon Society.  


Professor Zhao’s current research interests include:

1. Electrode materials for sodium-ion and lithium-ion batteries

2. Electrocatalytic reduction of carbon dioxide

3. Reactor (electrolyzer) design

4. Zeolite synthesis and catalysis

5. Carbon materials
